To deepen our dance

Tango Sensaciones is not here to replace dancing, but to deepen our awareness of what happens within us while we dance.

On Tuesday the 19th, we gather for a Tango Sensaciones circle exploring what moves us when we watch tango.

A few days ago, someone said to me that I was not dancing, that “I was only talking” referring to my newsletter and more specifically the Tango Sensaciones circles.

Perhaps it was her way of saying that she missed me in tango classes, and yet her words left me feeling sad and completely misunderstood.

They made me realise that perhaps I haven’t been fully clear about what Tango Sensaciones is.

For one thing, what Alla Petcheniouk and I are creating through Tango Sensaciones is not “talking”, but something experiential.

This Tuesday we are gathering…
to feel,
to experience,
to share and learn
and to create connection.

Not to replace dancing, how could we?, but to deepen it.

The intention behind Tango Sensaciones is to cultivate awareness of what is happening within us while we dance. Our circles are a space for presence, and for deepening awareness of one’s own body and the body of a partner.

For the past three years, my writing has been an extension of my dance. I write from what has been alive when I'm dancing tango, practising Contact Improvisation, or moving through my regular Movement as Medicine sessions.

While I have paused tango classes for now, I’m keeping my movement and still attending other dance spaces.

Less visible, perhaps, is my practice at home: playing with my axis, learning to fall, walking with intention.

It is from this place that Tango Sensaciones emerges: bringing attention to the subtle and often unnoticed dimensions of our dance.

This Tuesday, we will explore what is evoked in our body when we watch tango.

Like contemplating a masterpiece, each experience is intimate and unique.

Let’s explore together.

Tuesday, May 19
We’ll meet on Zoom at 6 pm UK time.
