Watching tango
What is it that moves us when we watch Argentine tango?

On Saturday the 16th, we gather for a Tango Sensaciones circle exploring what moves us when we watch tango.
Tango entered my life through my eyes.
I was living in London when I attended my very first tango class.
I remember almost nothing about the lesson itself, only the discomfort of trying to imitate movements my body could barely understand.
The class was still going when I decided tango was not for me. Luckily, I stayed until the end, when the two teachers danced together.
It was hypnotic.
Something in me shifted instantly. I couldn’t stop watching. At that moment, I knew:
I want to learn that.
With Alla Petcheniouk, we’ve been reflecting on the many sensations that move through us when we watch people dance tango.
The musicality.
The precision.
The intimacy.
The pauses.
The atmosphere between two bodies moving together.
Some dances leave us untouched. Others stay with us long after the music ends.
But why?
What is it that truly moves us when we watch tango?
On Saturday 16th, in a Tango Sensaciones circle, we will explore that space together.
We’ll watch a tango video and notice what it awakens in us.
What captures our attention?
What touches us emotionally?
What leaves an imprint somewhere deeper?
Together, we’ll reflect on how differently we perceive the same dance, and how our own sensitivity, memories, and longings shape what we see and feel.
We’re looking forward to sharing this exploration with you.
Saturday, May 16
We’ll meet on Zoom at 5 pm UK time.
Stay attuned
